New Friday Finds

I decided I needed to shake up my Five for Friday posts a bit & share a bit more than the usual etsy finds etc, although they will still be featured here too. I also though why limit myself to five with so many great things out there in the www.

So here it is some favourite ideas & things I've found around the web this week. Enjoy.

Five for Friday: Baby Room Inspiration

It's been a while since I've done a Five for Friday post so I thought I get back into it this week with some baby room inspiration. Our baby's room is currently our guest room & so we have to actually have to line & do up a completely gutted room for all the guest room furniture to actually have space for baby which is coming around the 31st May (gulp). So the baby's room, it's fair to say wont get its full-deserving make-over before baby arrives (it's covered in ugly messy wallpaper) but I'm still dreaming of how I want to put it all together once I get the chance. I want to paint the room a fresh white & add colour with vintage & handmade accents. So without further ado here's Five things inspiring me of late:

Love all these gorgeous vintage toys & the cube display. Found in this photostream by Craft hope.

I love deer, little picture displays & bunting. Found here.

I already have a cute plastic typewriter (thanks Dad) which I've gotta convince Lukey will go well in the baby's room, but I think I need to find one of these toy record players! Love the jigsaw puzzle too. Check out this post from Apartment Therapy for more details.

Another Apartment Therapy featured room. Cute vintage board game display!

Most of these images were found via Pinterest, I'm loving the ease of photo sharing but stuggle to find accurate sources of some of the pics.. so I do my best.

Can't wait to do some baby room diy also.

De-cluttering & other stuff going on here

Sorry I've been rather absent on the blog but I've been one very busy girl decluttering & organising our home. It's partly due to the fact that we want to start renovating a couple rooms, so I've had to look at allot of junk stuff we've had in storage and also because those beautiful nesting hormones have kicked in! I've talked a little on here before about my struggles & attempts to keep my house clean & organised and boy oh boy I've not wanted it more than now.. realizing just how much unnecessary stuff we've accumulated & not gotten rid of in the past.
Yep, just some of our books I've been sorting

A few trips to the op-shops to make donations & a trip to the tip later and I'm slowly seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I've still got a little way to go with what I want to achieve in the near future but I feel the weight lifting off my shoulders & more clarity of mind.
The big bonus is that actually being able to find stuff around the house means I'm more likely to get my creativity on. Yay!

Blogs I've been reading:
I've subscribed to the blog feed of 365 Less Things by email and it has me thinking about really decluttering allot of things & whilst I'll never be a minimalist, it's good to have little reminders to re-look at things

What I've been Listening to:
I've started to go through my CD collection from A-Z well at least those that I've put together (yes I alphabetised our CDs a while ago, but there are a few strays) Whilst Lukey has his daycare day I'm cleaning & listening to Christina Aguilera & Amiel. Thinking I will cull some of the CDs that I'm not all that into anymore. I dare not touch Steve's though!

What I've been watching:
The local video shop is closing down (sob) so they are selling stock (yay) I bought The Wizard of Oz (been wanting it for ages). It's the two disc version so I've been loving the documentaries about the making of the movie & back stories.

What I've been reading:
To go with both the theme of The Wizard of Oz & my de-cluttering I found a box of computer discs and wot-not & discovered my L. Frank Baum audio/PDF Oz series on CD. I'd forgotten that after seeing the musical Wicked! a couple years back I bought the disc on ebay, but never got around to reading them. As the books were all written so long ago they're in the public domain, some can be read straight online. I must admit I'm a bit of an anti-ebook reader or not so much anti as just I'd prefer looking at a book than the computer screen but none the less I'm enjoying The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, especially comparing it to the movie. I've never read a series of books before (and I'm an ex-library assistant!), so if I stick at it I'll be proud of myself, even if they are kids books!! I'm usually more of a Non-fiction, blog & Frankie reader!

Photographic wishlist

I'm by no means a photographer, it's my hubby in this family that is great at taking photos & I wish he would spend more time developing  his skills (sorry no pun intended) as I think he has some shots good enough to sell & has great potential

I love looking at dreamy images on the web & have come across some products lately that I'd love to experiment with but alas they will be staying on my wish list for a while with renovations & baby on the way.
But it's nice to dream so here's a few on my radar:

Fuji Instax camera- I think the mini would be so fun
Available from photojojoamazon etc

The Dreamy Diana Lens- adds a retro toy camera look to a DSLR.

available from photojojo

Holga iPhone lens filter kit, can be added straight to an iPhone!

Available from Holga direct and photojojo

One thing that I have just ordered is my first lot of Pristagram prints with some Christmas money. Staying with the instant/toy camera theme, I used some of my Instagram (iPhone app) photos & I think it will be fun to make a mini scrapbook with them. I am curious to see how they turn out. By the way you can follow me on Instagram @sweetrustic

Have you used Prinstagram or any of these items on my wishlist? Or have you got some other cool cameras/ accessories? Please share in the comments.

Candy Cane Christmas favours

Here is another simple way to create favours or place settings for your Christmas table. I made these for a ladies group that I attend. The larger sheet of paper was a Christmas related quiz & it was folded into 8ths starting length-ways, you could use Christmas riddles or jokes etc.

The paper inside the folded paper doilie was a 'conversation starter' each person had a different Christmas themed question to answer on traditions, favourite Christmas memories and the like.

I folded the doilies in half then the two sides in to overlap.

I put the folded doilie on top of the A4 sheet,

Then added a candy cane & bakers twine

& I also had a few funsized chocolates that fitted in their nicely too for those who don't like candy canes. Simple yet effective.
